On the Sounds tab, click on the "Sound scheme " box and select "No sound " to completely deactivate the sound effects. You can also access Control Panel> Hardware and Sound> Sound. ![]() To open the sound control panel, right click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Sounds". You can turn them off entirely or even set custom sound effects, if you prefer. They are especially annoying on Windows 7, where Windows emits a click sound every time you change folders in Windows Explorer. Windows regularly plays a startup sound and other sound effects, and they can become unpleasant.
